The Marilyn

I am RedChocolate.

I am so sorry that I haven’t posted in TWO WEEKS! Oh my gosh, these past two weeks have absolutely flown by and I cannot wait to write about a few new topics this week! Here is a quick video that truly inspired me, and I hope it does the same to you. (I got the goosebumps AND teary eyes!)

Behind every great man is an even greater hairdresser…

I was talking to some friends today about how sometimes, men just become confused about what actually looks good on them. True, some men are programmed with a natural eye for fashion, but for the others, well…they just need some guidance. As hairdressers, it’s a requirement that you are honest to your guest about their appearance and what will suit them–obviously good tact is needed here, but a good hairdresser can really enhance the beauty that is already there–you want the frame to enhance the photo just as you’d like your hair to enhance your features and personality.

This year, for men, many of the hairstyles that are being seen focus on the truth about what is on your head. It’s about working with your natural texture and embracing it. Most of the haircuts have the same general idea–tight on the sides and natural on the top, or if your texture calls for it–natural all over! Here are some examples:

Undercut--short on sides and back--best for those with naturally straight hair.

Undercut--short on sides and back--best on those with a little natural wave.

Cropped sides, full top--best with naturally curly hair to add volume. The short sides will allow super easy styling.

Slicked back with side part--best for those with naturally straight hair--good for men and women as the "wet" look is very present in fashion right now.

A more classic option for the slicked back look.

Hair down to there--work a shoulder length cut if your body type and face shape can support it--works excellently if you already have a natural curl or wave to give it some body and movement,

All of these looks will work fabulous for men because they don’t require much time to get ready because they are working with what you’ve already got going on–you don’t need to load up on product or use aΒ blow dryerΒ or flat iron–just be yourself. Some of the cuts do require more upkeep than a typical haircut–something like the undercut or cropped sides option would require more trips to the salon because you want to keep those sides tight to the head…it would definitely be worth it to look that good though!

Some of these ideas may be extremely out of the box for some guys, but as I always say–go for it! You only live once–why not look fabulous along the way? Enjoy!

Orange you glad you look fabulous??

As I had mentioned in a previous post, orange is aΒ huge color that we are seeing everywhere for spring and summer. I had mentioned that coral and neon orange lips are in for makeup, but orange is also a hit in the hair department! I know, I know–hearing the words “orange” and “hair” together may send some people running, but having an orange hue doesn’t mean that you’re going to look like you literally have an orange sitting on your head–unless, of course, that’s the look you’re going for! Orange can range anywhere from true orange to coppers to peaches–just something that adds warmth. There are a variety of ways to incorporate some punch into your current ‘do–it all depends on how bold you want to go. Below are some options to help spice up your look this season:

If you're nervous for a big change, add a bold streak of highlights like Cosmo suggests.

Another, more subtle, option for highlights.

A bold option for streaks or highlights.

Subtle option for an all-over type of hair color--falls into a peachy family.

Bolder option for an all-over hair color.

Very vibrant all-over hair color--falls into copper family.

As you can see, there truly are options for everyone. When caring for such a vibrant color like these oranges, you’ll want to pay special attention to the shampoos and conditioners you’re using. Vibrant colors of any type will need to be treated with care meaning you’ll need to use a color safe shampoo and conditioner. It’s also important to not over-wash your hair because that will lead to fadeage. Try substituting a dry shampoo at least every other day instead of washing with water. If you do need to shampoo everyday, use cool water (as cool as you can tolerate). Also try to use a color protecting product like Aveda’s Color Conserve Daily Color Protect. That product will keep your hair looking vibrant for weeks if you use the whole line–which I am a huge fan of–has an amazing aroma!

If you’re still feeling hesitant about a new color, talk to your hairdresser and get their opinion. But between you and me, don’t be afraid of change. With something like hair color, if you don’t like it, you can go back to whatever you were rocking before. Just have fun with it–I’m sure that you will look fabulous.

Sunday Smiles!

Happy Sunday! This week has been such a long, hectic week! Today is actually my first day off in…wait for it…27 DAYS! As you can imagine, I am more than excited about this, and I took the opportunity to sleep in for as long as I possibly could. It was a magical snooze. Today I am working on some things from school, going to a work meeting, and working on my portfolio for Beacon. Here is a video that I saw this week that put a smile on my face, as I’m sure it would to many hairdressers out there.

“Sandy Beach…or Butter Blonde…I know, they’re so different.”

Enjoy your Sunday!
